Hacks in Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2 Getting Patched

If you have recently played Call of Duty 4 or Modern Warfare 2, you might have run into many hacked lobbies. Infinity Ward is now addressing the issue. Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling on a recent One of Swords podcast, shed some light on the hacks and exploits in MW2 and CoD 4. In response to a question on if Infinity Ward is working patches for the aforementioned games, Robert said: "We (Infinity Ward) are (addressing the hacks and exploits). We are not looking at rebalancing things, so you're not going to see OMA (One Man Army) being removed from MW2, although it is removed from MW3. But, we're looking at things, like security things of like how can we address hacking on Call of Duty 4? And, we've been already doing updates on MW2 to address hacking, and basically once we get MW2 on lockdown, then the guys who have the ability to focus on even further legacy things, (such as) how can we lockdown things on CoD 4. Actually, we just did on PC a Linux patch." He went to explain that Infinity Ward's primary focus is, obviously, Modern Warfare 3, then MW2 and CoD 4 (respectively

Downgrading PS3 Firmware 3.70 to 3.55 with ProgSkeet

Quote Made by DigitalAngel
For the first time, we have been involved in something truly spectacular , we were the first in the world to test the downgrade from 3.70 to 3:55 on a PS3 Slim (With flash memory, " NOR ") using the ProgSkeet and patched some files provided by dospiedra, coder already a famous Spanish riding high for having discovered the method of going back to 3:55 / 3:41 with the PS3 (FAT flash memory "NAND").
After several attempts, in collaboration with dospiedra, we got to go back from 3.70 to 3:55, enter the factory mode with a simple key to jailbreak, rifleshare a modified version of 3:55 to prevent the SYSCON (the registry in between downgrades) was consulted during the downgrade and now we are happily at 3:55 KMEAW!

With this version of moddata 3:55, you can perform a memory dump today and you can switch on the fly from 3:55 to 3.70 without having to do this all the time-consuming process: using progskeet fact you can go straight to 3.70 changed to 3:55!
Dospiedra said it will release details on the patches applied to the NOR and the update file as soon as possible.
New life for those who arrived too late to enjoy the benefits of the 3:55?

Official SDK - PS3 GCC Cell OS Lv2 Toolchain Sources Leaked Source : Five Star Gamerz - FiveStarGamerz Ps3 and Xbox360 News and Reviews - Official SDK - PS3 GCC Cell OS Lv2 Toolchain Sources Leaked

An individual known as JohnAaron has leaked some important files that will come in handy for developers.
The files are the PS3 GCC Cell OS Lv2 toolchain sources which come from the official Sony SDK.
If you're anything short of a full fledged homebrew developer, you should probably stop reading here.
However, if you are a developer you realize how handy this release can be. Previously, coders could not make their own versions of GCC with the PS3 SDK.
However, that setback no longer stands in the way with the release of these files. In addition, dev's can now port later versions of GCC to the SDK, as well as make their own toolchain.
Once again, it's stressed that if you're not a developer this won't be of any use to you, but this will come in handy for developers.

Changing Your PS3's IDPS

First off you will need a NAND/NOR reader/writer. Second, you can put your PS3 into debugger mode.

You will need a dump of your flash or be able to access and read/write it in someway.

You will find section 0 EID0 which will look like...

00000000 00 00 00 01 00 89 00 0B 14 00 EF DD CA 25 52 66 .....‰....ïÝÊ%Rf 00000010 00 12 00 0B 81 2E 00 A9 59 75 01 CC C1 72 D5 50 .......©Yu.ÌÁrÕP

This part you will be looking at....

00000000 00 00 00 01 00 89 00 0B 14 00 EF DD CA 25 52 66 .....‰....ïÝÊ%R

his is your IDPS, the 6th byte in there is your Target ID, which is what kind of PS3 your's is. (Retail USA, Retail U.K., e.t.c.)

So in this code;

00000000 00 00 00 01 00 89 00 0B 14 00 EF DD CA 25 52 66 .....‰....ïÝÊ%Rf

The 6th byte which is 89; 89 is equal to Retail Australia/New Zeland.

Now say you want to put your PS3 into Debugger mode; you would have to change the 89 (which by the way, is a hexadecimal) and the code for System Debugger is... A0. Now, when you change the code it will look something like this...

00000000 00 00 00 01 00 A0 00 0B 14 00 EF DD CA 25 52 66 .....*....ïÝÊ%R

Now you will just put this back into your NAND (where the flash is located), or NOR (if you are on slim).

This concludes Changing your PS3's IDPS and putting it into Debugger mode.
